Briefing of my second week of 2014 YALI Program

Our focus of the week is Government Accountability and Legislation. 
Our focus of the week is Government Accountability and Legislation.
The second week was also announced with full discoveries and training. We briefly talked about classes, then the discoveries and finally our global appreciation.
For classes:
·         Leadership skills training based on personal assessment with Sudha Shety, our program coordinator and also Assistant Dean of the Goldman School of Public policy. This course has made ​​us discover the nature of leadership, diversity and leadership. SWOT analysis has allowed each one of us to better locate and see the aspects which he must improve or give more attention to.
·         We also continue after the module on Public policy with class presentations. This week the focus was placed on  evidence in the analysis of public policy. A topic on  regional peace and security has been given as a homework for the class and was due on  July 10. The purpose of this work is to  make recommendations for  the Summit of  African Heads of States with President Obama. Group work ... not only learning but also applying? - more learning!
·         The presentation on Ethics and Governance by Scott Moore was concerned with the evaluation of education policies. What we know and do. He presented us the situation of the  California preschool and especially the link between children, teachers and parents in the learning of the child.
·         Communication on Government in International Development has allowed us to exchange the ideal, the real and the differences it make. Practical exercises on the role of governments have allowed us to have a very rich debate around the issues of  security, law, services, investment, infrastructure, policy, regulation and so on).
·         Katie M. Miller kept us on the Broadband for developing countries with videos and examples of net neutrality, banks with mobile Telephonies.
·         Transformational Management: A case study on ethics, leadership and governance by Maianna Marysheva Martinez emphasized several aspects including the improvement of leadership especially in the area of government leadership issues and solutions. Leadership is organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal.
·          Videoconference on the documentary'' The Prince of Malabo’,  a 26minutes film that explores Equatorial Guinea’s economic rise and challenges it faces through the life of it’s new vice president, Teodoro Nguema Obieng. After the projection of the video, we share them with Mr Tawanda Kanhema, the film director, who is a student at Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Among  the themes addressed in his documentary Facts it is worth noting  money, power and impunity in Equatorial Guinea and in  Africa in general.
Our visits this week:
·         Cultural visit: ThePhoeb A.Hearst Museum of Anthropology where we find several objects related to the history of the peoples of the entire world. Several African objects were presented to us. I saw AgadezTuareg shoes, music intruments from Hausa of Niger. Woah ...

·        























Visit Sacramanto, Capital of the State of California.
The Beautiful Capitol of California Sacramento welcomes you with all these structures that carries a great history. it was wonderful experience to go to the senate and learn much on how California is run and all its flourishing sectors : http://portal.cityofsacramento.org/·
In our agenda: 1 Meeting with senate Majority Causus;2 Meeting with CA legislative Analyst s office LOA; 3 Tour of state Capitol Building; 4 Meeting with Ray Sotoro ( Communications Director, California State senate); 5 Meeting with ( Suzanne reed Chief of Staff to Senator Carol Liu.





Finally, i summarizes this week in this sentence: I feel more dive on the issues of the world around us and especially ways and manners to better exercise our leadership.

Briefing of my third week YALI Program 2014

A new week began with the prospect of celebrating the Independence of the United States on July 4, so amazing to taking part for the first time in US.   Then see a summary of our activities for the week, this time focusing on Climate Change and Environmental Preservation. Two visits were made: • We visited The Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School, to see the Edible Schoolyard garden sustainable food [1] . This is an interesting initiative focused on sustainable development and the involvement of children and young people in the preservation of the environment. The Mission of the Edible Schoolyard is essentially to teach life skills and support academic learning through hands-on classes in a one-acre organic garden and kitchen classroom.
